I painted this piece alongside Silence, following a year of creative block that strangely arrived after I was awarded the Michelangelo Prize.
Standing in a magnificent hall in Rome among artists from all over the world, receiving an award for a portrait of my grandfather, was an overwhelming experience. The painting was featured in a Roman magazine and several Israeli news outlets.
Yet, in the aftermath, I found it incredibly difficult to create.
I struggled with imposter syndrome, feeling that I was not as talented as people believed.
For a long time, I did not paint, fearing that I would disappoint myself and prove my own doubts right.
Eventually, the burning need to create returned.
I decided to experiment with abstract art, a style that had always fascinated me.
I told myself "Whatever happens, happens, let's just try." This painting was one of the first results of that period. It was incredibly liberating, a process of discovery.
The freedom of abstraction, combined with the technical skills I had already mastered, such as composition, color analysis, and layering, opened a new and fascinating world of modern abstract painting for me.
I chose a color palette that reflected my need for lightness and calm. The numerous layers of paint provide a sense of depth that balances the airy movement.
This work explores our constant human need to move, try, change, and evolve, which often exists alongside a primal fear of change itself.
