Tranquility | Original Abstract Oil Painting | Livnat Bashari Juli
Medium Oil on canvas | Size 70x70 cm (approx. 27.5x27.5 inches)
An abstract painting in light tones,
featuring bold and expressive brushstrokes of browns, grays, soft pinks, greens, and whites.
The composition is filled with movement and dynamism, designed so that the lighter areas draw the viewer’s focus toward the heart of the colorful activity.
I painted this piece alongside Motion.
Both works, which share similar colors, layering, and brushwork, were created following a year of creative block that arrived after I received the Michelangelo Prize.
Standing in a magnificent hall in Rome among artists from all over the world, receiving an award for a portrait of my grandfather, was an overwhelming experience.
The painting was featured in a Roman magazine and several Israeli news outlets.
Yet, in the aftermath, I found it incredibly difficult to create.
I struggled with imposter syndrome, feeling that I was not as talented as people believed.
For a long time, I did not paint, fearing that I would disappoint myself and prove my own doubts right.
Eventually, I decided to return to the canvas and experiment with abstract art, a style that had always fascinated me. I told myself "Whatever happens, happens, let's just try."
This painting was one of the first results of that period.
It was incredibly liberating, a process of discovery. The freedom of abstraction, combined with the technical skills I had already mastered from figurative art, such as composition, color analysis, and layering, opened a new and fascinating world of modern abstract painting for me.
I chose a color palette that reflected my need for lightness and calm.
The numerous layers of paint provide a sense of depth that balances the airy movement.
This work explores our constant human need to move, try, change, and evolve, which often exists alongside a primal fear of change itself.
The painting is part of a series of abstract paintings, fascinating and full of chic, drawing inspiration from Israeli landscapes and Jewish values while corresponding with the world of modern design. Unlike realistic art, an abstract work is undefined, that is its magic. It is an invitation to a game, a riddle that allows everyone to see something different. Additionally, it embodies multiple perspectives, you can rotate it to discover a new painting every time.
This piece can serve as a striking design focus. Hang it in a bedroom for a romantic and calming feel, or place it on a clean white wall to let it stand out. On walls with light brown, gray, or peach tones, it creates a harmonious look. For a stylish touch, it can be leaned against a wall rather than hung, and it pairs beautifully with wooden furniture for added warmth.
