I began this painting from an inner urge, stepping out onto my porch in Kedumim, Samaria.
Looking out at the landscape of the Samarian hills, vibrant green mountains alongside the ancient houses of surrounding villages, I felt a story unfold. This view speaks volumes about the complexity of Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel, a story of an ancient, inseparable connection between a people and their land, a connection that has carried a profound price throughout generations.
Like music playing in my head, the painting flowed without struggle. I began by sketching the landscape in an abstract manner, using large geometric shapes with clean, simple lines that connected to create an intriguing angular composition.
The dramatic encounter between these sharp angles is softened by gentle, greyish brushstrokes.
I created this piece immediately after another work inspired by the same scenery, Landscapes.
