An invitation to a tour through the Nachlaot neighborhood in Jerusalem.
A sweet child rides an old bicycle,
crossing the narrow alleys.
During my time as an art student in Jerusalem,
I lived in Nachlaot and loved wandering through it, capturing special moments.
I photographed this child in this magical neighborhood, knowing even then that I would want to paint this scene.
The painting was inspired by the prophecy of Zechariah (8:4),
which describes a pastoral reality of elderly men and women sitting in the streets of Jerusalem,
and children playing without worry.
This prophecy speaks to the return of the Jewish people to their land after 2,000 years of exile.
The child symbolizes the younger generation - the future of the nation.
The bicycle represents movement and progress.
The alley is blooming and colorful,
reflecting the vitality and joy of childhood and,
on a deeper level, the joy in the fulfillment of prophecy.
The painting is figurative yet leaves room for the imagination.
The colors blend into one another with free brushwork.
Large patches of color alongside precise details invite the viewer to complete the picture in their own way.
